This week I'm posting a pair of videos on basic technique for the guitar and mandolin.  You get two for one this week!

It's important to establish proper technique early on so that you don't develop any bad habits.  Bad technique can cause pain, tendinitis, and may limit you ability to play difficult passages.  You must never squeeze or strain your muscles.  Flexibility is key.  When picking or using your bow, you should use the natural weight of your arm to apply pressure, rather than actually using your muscles to apply force.  Instead of pushing down just let your arm 'fall'.  This natural weight is all that you need, and will keep you flexible, loose, and without pain.

Once you master the basics you'll be ready to move on to our other lessons and start learning tunes!
