Well we're on our fourth day of Rolland Fiddle Camp, and so far it has been absolutely great. All of the students are embracing the challenge of learning by ear, jamming on tunes they don't know, and entering the scary world of improvisation. We have all skill levels, from absolute beginners to professional buskers, and each adds something very special to the camp. Last night I jammed with an absolutely amazing ukulele player (he was at the camp to learn the clawhammer banjo) and another great fiddle player. Even though I'm the teacher, I'm learning a lot from the students because they all bring such diverse backgrounds to the camp.

As always, the camp staff have been incredible, taking care of all the food and cleaning so that we can focus on the fiddle. We even discovered that one of the cooks is a fabulous singer. We brought her up during the Tuesday night concert to sing a gospel number and she tore the house down!

I'm sad that there are only two days left, but I'm going to make the most of it. Back to fiddling!
