Just when I think I've started to figure out how to play the fiddle I stumble across an old video or recording of one of the great old timers and am reminded what good fiddling really sounds like. It doesn't get a whole let better than Clark Kessinger. He had a fast, saw-stroke style of fiddling, punctuated with intermittent accents and slides, a style that meshed remarkably well with the five string banjo. Aggressive, flashy, and yet surprisingly lyrical at times.
