ROLLAND FIDDLE CAMP
JULY 8-14, 2012
Hermit Basin Conference Center
Westcliffe, Colorado
(www.peterrolland.com)

Once again the Rolland family will host Rolland Fiddle Camp in southern Colorado. The location is the same as last year, a beautiful mountain resort (at 9000’) called Hermit Basin Conference Center. It's located in the foothills of the gorgeous Sangre de Cristo mountain range about 7 miles west of Westcliffe, Colorado. In the photo below, the camp is located at base of the ski slopes which appear as almost vertically slanted light green streaks amidst the dark green forest to the left of the road in the foothills of the mountains. The website has a ton of information about the camp, including photo galleries and videos from last year’s camp. Please check out the camp website at www.peterrolland.com, or just click on "Rolland Music Camp" at the top of the FiddlinMike.com homepage. Also, please visit our Facebook page (search on Rolland Fiddle Camp).

We offer participants an intimate, small music camp experience - total immersion for a week of instruction in a gorgeous setting. Room and board and instruction by super instructors and performers are provided at a very modest price.

Great instructors and performers will teach old-time, bluegrass, country and contest fiddling, jazz and swing improvisation and fiddling for string teachers and professional violinists. Mandolin, guitar, old-time claw-hammer banjo, cello & bass students are welcome as well.

Bios and links for the instructors and generally complete information about the camp are at www.peterrolland.com. Here's a quick look at the faculty:

Peter Rolland: all fiddle styles, string teachers, intermediate & advanced students, singing, technical & remedial training, bass
Matthew Rolland: old-time, cross-tuned fiddling, contest fiddling, intermediate & advanced students, mandolin, song writing
Mike Rolland (FiddlinMike): bluegrass, country & contest fiddling, old-time, intermediate & advanced students, mandolin, guitar, song writing
Mike Cirillo: jazz & swing improvisation, rock, country & blues fiddle
Dan Levenson: old-time banjo and fiddle
Gail Rolland: beginners, "folk orchestra" director, cello, bass
Eden Rolland: beginners, novice players, dance
Grace Rolland: singing, dance, cello
Lynne Denig: staff expert violin teacher: fundamentals, remedial training, Paul Rolland string methods, custom chinrest fitting

We are very pleased to welcome to Dan Levenson to our faculty this summer. Dan is a well-known old-time banjo performer and teacher, Mel Bay banjo books author and was the banjo player with the famed old-time string band, The Boiled Buzzards. He’s also an excellent old-time fiddler specializing in Southern Appalachian fiddling.

We will again have Lynne Denig, master violin teacher from Fairfax Virginia, on hand to help the fiddlers with their violin fundamentals as well as to share her first hand knowledge of the principles of the family patriarch, world renowned violin teacher Paul Rolland.

Please look at the website and pass it along to friends, or anybody you know that might be interested in what we offer.

By the way, the end of camp overlaps a big bluegrass festival in Westcliffe (www.HighMountainHayFever.org) that brings in national acts. Our students could catch the high point of the festival Saturday and Sunday.

I hope to see you all there!

Fiddlin Mike
